The Federal Government has extended a multi-million dollar funding grant for a new Latrobe Valley power station.
The project has failed to meet conditions set by the Howard Government in 2007 when it committed to $100 million in funding for the project.
The approval of the coal and gas-fired plant is currently being challenged in the courts
The Resources and Energy Minister, Martin Ferguson, says the Government has given the project another six months to meet the project milestones because of the court action and “if the HRL project does not meet the six-months requirement then that project, a grant of the previous Howard Government, will fall over,” he said.
The Federal Government has being accused of double standards due to the withdrawal of grants from Solar Projects that were unable to meet grant deadlines only a few days before this announcement.
